Review of The Darkest Minds (2018) by Anne W — 16 Aug 2018
I found this movie quite enjoyable. I went into it knowing that critics were complaining that it is 'just another YA dystopian movie', but as I am a fan of that kind of thing, I figured that I would probably like it. Basically, if you are a fan of this genre, you will probably like it enough, but if not, then don't bother.
I found that it felt a bit different from the Hunger Games, Divergent, etc., because it has a bit more fantasy rather than sci-fi. Overall, I thought that it was quite interesting and exciting. I admit, there are a few plot-holes, but my main problem with it is that the ending was rather disappointing. I guess that it is setting up for the next movie in the trilogy, but given how badly this movie has done box-office- and critics-wise, I would be surprised if any more of these movies get made.
Despite these issues, I did like this movie. I think that anyone of the audience that it is aimed at will probably like it as well.
