Review of The Darkest Hour (2011) by Pedro H — 14 Apr 2012
Survive the Holidays.
I guess you could call it a fun hour.
The Darkest Hour came to me as a shocker; this poorly advertised film had the potential to be an epic Summer blockbuster like I am Legend was. Unfortunately, with what I am guessing a low budget, Gorak and his crew did the best they could with this movie, and unfortunately their best wasn't enough, but it was satisfactory for an hour.
This is Gorak's second movie directing, and I think he did a good job. As an art director he shinned in Minority Report, therefore I knew this movie was going to be visually pleasing, and it was. The graphics in this movie - although low budgeted - are new and rather fun.
The biggest flaw in this movie was Emile Hirsch who I absolutely loved in Into the Wild, and Joel Kinnaman who is great in the hit tv show The Killing. I thought that these two would be great, unfortunately the horrible cheesy script in this movie just made them seem like horrible actors.
The Darkest Hour is a fun movie, it is able to entertain for the hour. But, it had the potential to be something much bigger, and it just didn't get there.
Boris: Welcome to Russia sucka.
