Review of The Darkest Hour (2011) by Katie C — 22 Apr 2012
There are so many things done right on this movie it's a pity that the lazy character stereotypes, the boring set up, and the anti-climatic ending spoil everything.
The acting isn't half as bad as you would expect for this kind of "alien invasion" movie, and the invisible aliens work very well - at least until you get to see the crappy effect of what's inside - though the *SPOILER* mining tower angle was stupid as hell.
Characters know and/or figure out things that are outside what they would locally be able to know and they are so stereotypical that the set up is a waste of time: you have them already figured out from the first few seconds, so they should've used that time to make the audience care about them.
Again: it is entertaining, but though it had the potential to be a good movie, it was just a waste the way they dumped that potential to the trash.
