I didn't read the books so I wasn't really sure what to expect when I saw the movie. If the movie does depart dramatically from the book or fails to live up to its literary cousin hat might be part of why this movie isn't doing better than it is at the theater.
Having said all of that I thought the movie was pretty good overall. I can't say it's worth seeing at the big screen but certainly worth seeing as a discounted showing or a rental.
