Review of The Dark Knight Rises (2012) by Michael E — 28 Mar 2018

Dark Knight Rises follows Bruce Wayne 8 years after the events of the Dark Knight. A new villain arrives in Gotham under the name Bane who is building an empire under the sewers and setting up explosives around the city while Bruce Wayne is pondering about becoming Batman again to save the city.

The Dark Knight Rises is hands down one of the best films I've seen this year, and that mainly has to do with the acting, music, and the climax of this movie. The acting in this movie is just incredible and really kept me entertained. The dark Knight did have a few problems in terms of the acting, and it really didn't keep me that entertained, seeing how to me a lot of the film was just dialogue and it didn't seem to really build up to that much in the end, this movie I actually cared about what was going on with these characters and these actors really did show concern in their acting and there performances in this film. The only actor that I had a problem with and I think a few people have also had a problem with is the Bane character. This is mainly due to the fact that he has the mask on his face that covers his mouth, so it muffles his speech a little, but the problem it is in the first half of the film, its almost impossible to make out what he is even saying in this film. But it does improve later in the film, I think Nolan saw that it sounded a little muffled so he made it more clear near the end of the film so it became a lot easier to understand at least near the end of the film and when that happens Bane gives one of my favorite movie speeches of all time heeding to what the people in Gotham want to gain more troops for his army. The only actor I truly didn't like was Marion Cotillard as Miranda Tate AKA Talia Ghul, because she was kind of what I call a clusterf*ck character, where its a character that has been given so many different roles in the film like first shes a friend then shes an enemy then she's a love interest, it just goes everywhere and she just does such a poor job at doing it that it just becomes irritating. The best new performance in the film is Joseph Gordon Levitt as John Blake. He plays a detective and cop who's trying to get all the policemen out of the sewers after an explosion by Bane and Levitt does a very good job at showing his anger in wanting to free these men and figure out what is going on.

Next the Action. The film does start out rather slow with very little action in the first hour of the film but once all the cops are trapped, oh man does this movie get good. The action in this movie is choreographed so well and each punch thrown during the fights with Bane really sound like it hurts really bad just by the sound of crushing bone. When the cops get out of their prison in the sewers it just turns into a massive warzone with the cops and terrorists just fighting in the streets and while all this happens Bane and Batman are fighting hand to hand and it is one of the best action scenes I've seen in a movie to date. It just pumps you up so much seeing all this fighting going on in the background and then having these two have their final confrontation.

Now the Music, MY GOD THE MUSIC. The music is one of the best things I can say about this movie because it is done in a very clever way. Either there are intense scenes and action with no music, or there are scenes with music and I love how well the music is done. Mainly due to Hans Zimmers incredible way of composing music for film. One of the many themes that I love in the film is the song "The Fire Rises" because it truly shows Banes power and what he intends to do and what he intends to do to get it.

This is also a song they play a lot in the film mainly during the scenes involving Bane and this song alone just cements how badass of a character it makes Bane out to be.

Overall the Dark Knight Rises is a major improvement in a few of the flaws the Batman Begins and Dark Knight had and it is just a flat out incredible Superhero film plus this film has a very good twist near the end of the film. If I can recommend any superhero movie that has come out this year, see this. My words just can't do this movie justice.
