Many are calling the conclusion to Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy the darkest and grimmest of the lot. I could not disagree more. If anything this is the "lightest" of the trilogy. I mean this both literally and figuratively, as most of Batman's limited screen-time is in broad daylight. I find this fascinating; Batman hardly ever appears during the day in the comics, and this is most likely the first time he has done so in film since Adam West last wore the cowl over 40 years ago.

In the figurative sense, "The Dark Knight Rises" is rather different from its predecessors as well. In both "Batman Begins" and "The Dark Knight" it felt as if there was no hope; as a viewer I knew that the films wouldn't have happy endings. I never got that feeling while watching "The Dark Knight Rises", and it did take away some of the tension and suspense. However, the film makes up for it with a grander scale and more epic story than the two previous films. I will end my review here, as I don't want to say anything that could potentially spoil the film for the unfortunate people who have yet to view it.
