This movie, I think, is the 2nd best in the trilogy. Nolan continues his commitment to a non-fantastical, non-supernatural superhero and executes the attempt well. this film has philosophical depth because it has a philosophical villain - Bane, who is trying destroy both Gotham's streets and Gotham's soul.

The Dark Knight rises to save the streets and save the hope of the citizens. Anne Hathaway's character is very convincing as a conflicted rogue in leather pants, and Levitt's character plays it by the rules and must therefore come off a little flat; however, these two foil Batman; Batman saves Gotham ,but never becomes part of it; Catwoman wants self-redemption, but doesn't care about Gotham; Levitt's Character wants to save Gotham through the institutions.

Each character finds out whether their spiritual path works or fails in the crucible of Bane's Gotham. The opening Plane scene is perhaps one of the best openings ever filmed. This movie is a keeper.
