Review of The Dark Knight Rises (2012) by Magnus G — 03 Oct 2014
The Dark Knight Rises is probably the most flawed of the three Nolan Batman films. However in all honesty, its flaws are so minor, I don't think they are worth complaining about and many elements of this film are even greater than the other two that it's still on par with its predecessors.
It's the darkest in the trilogy with its unpredictable plot and menacing antagonist in Tom Hardy's commanding portrayal of Bane. It's also the first time where you get the feeling Bruce Wayne is in true danger and he really comes out as a fully realised character in this.
Christian Bale outdoes his work in the previous films with his emotionally powerful performance. Anne Hathaway also delivers great work with hints of nuance as Catwoman, rivalling Michelle Pfeiffer's equally effective performance in Batman Returns.
The action scenes once again amaze and feel larger than ever. This film is everything that Spider-Man 3 isn't. It's a powerful, ambitious, gripping and most of all, satisfying finale to an incredible series.
