Review of The Dark Crystal (1982) by Natalie H — 21 Apr 2010
Skip this one and watch Labyrinth instead. The sets and puppets are impressive, but the story is weak, predictable, and lumbering. There is none of the typical Henson subtext or metaphor that I would expect (such as the little jokes that make Sesame Street entertaining for parents, too, or the coming-of-age story beneath the fantasy in Labyrinth), but the movie is too dark and potentially scary for young children.
