Review of The Dark Crystal (1982) by Mark T — 11 Mar 2010
Jim Henson's Epic Masterpiece of Good vs. Evil and the Quest to return a mythic civilization back to a Utopian state of Union. Jen and Kira, the last of the Gelflings venture to the Crystal Castle in order to "heal the Dark Crystal" - while two ancient races, the Mystics and the Skekis, who are two halves or an inseparable whole, engage in conflict.
This is, in my opinion, one of the most Epic films ever written, and, alongside the Original Star Wars Trilogy and The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, remains to this day, one of the most heartfelt and endearing translations of the Eastern Path of Taoism that I have ever seen.
Good and Evil, Dark and Light arising from and returning to One Source and the struggle to find a Middle Path to balance these two seemingly opposite and opposing forces of nature. I recommend this film to children of all ages.
To Jim Henson, a truly wonderful human being - may his legacy carry in our hearts and minds forever.
