Review of The Darjeeling Limited (2007) by Javier A — 25 Sep 2010
Well made movie that is worth your time. If this is your first foray into Wes Anderson's films, please eject the film and go look for another title. Not because it is a bad movie, but because this movie is a more in depth and character driven, film, which requires a total attention and some thought to properly enjoy. This, again, is not to say that other Anderson's films don't follow this same formula, but this movie is drier, more morose.
The directing is amazing, Wes Anderson is an auteur. He has mastered his craft and has a very peculiar form of story telling. Using bright colors to draw attention to certain details which he wishes you to focus on. He is also a master of using songs in his films. Thanks to his direction, you feel like you are the fourth unseen brother of the bunch.
The acting is excellent, Jason Schwartzman stole the movie, his attention to detail was spot on. Owen Wilson does a very good job with his character, really brining the older brother complex into the character. Adrien Brody, was okay, I feel like this character just didn't fit his acting style, but he still made the best of it. Plus you get to enjoy Bill F..ing Murray.
The script was very good, Although not as good as previous Anderson's scripts, but you can really feel Schwartzman's touches to the script. The story was interesting and mature, and worth the time spent on it.
I recommend this film to all movie lovers, but especially those Wes Anderson buffs, an interesting and intelligent watch.
