While the performances from Eddie Redmayne and Alicia Vikander (who is very likely to receive an Oscar nomination for her work) are extremely honed and committed, the timely subject matter on display could have been portrayed with more risk taking from a directorial and screen writing standpoint.

Still, the performances have a weight that is sometimes lacking in these period pieces. Recommended.
