Review of The Danish Girl (2015) by Ruben D — 13 Jan 2016
Found Eddie Redmayne extremely irritating in this movie. They had a fantastic story, a wonderful script, and the scenery is stunning (if a bit cliched). But the constant simpering and eyelash flattering just gets annoying.
I think a true understanding of what it might be like to be a woman in a man's body is missing. He portrays discomfort by looking downwards, having a dry throat and stuttering - all made the more noticeable with an extremely close microphone.
It's just lacking in subtlety and despite a brilliant performance of portrayal of his wife by Alicia Vikander, is frankly, all rather boring.
