It's common for Oscar bait movies to look beautiful and even feature award caliber performances, and still not be very good. Redmayne and Vikander put on an acting showcase but it can't make up for how dreadfully dull everything is.
It also doesn't help that Einar/Lili is so unlikable. I won't be upset if it wins any acting awards, but I couldn't wait for it to end.
