Review of The Danish Girl (2015) by Private U — 24 Feb 2016
The Danish girl, is not a girl for all audiences. Opening night only saw a handful of people in the local cinema. Eddie's convincing performance is what seals the connection between audience and film.
.. The film itself is very slow, at times too quiet. But the strength of the lead's performance when he is playing "Lily" exposes his struggle with his/her identify in sensitive and personal moments.
The treatment of the scenes kept you in the era of the film while telling the story of a highly provocative subject, for its time. The lead cast is the strength of the movie, otherwise bleh. Its very interesingt to note the polar opposites of this BEST ACTOR nominee in his famine and sensitive role, versus the Manly, savage and harsh persona of Leonardo DiCaprio is his role in The Revenant, for the same prize .
