Review of The Danish Girl (2015) by Kelly P — 15 Apr 2016
Eddie Redmayne is so fucking good here, which isn't shocking, but the performance of Alicia Vikander gives the movie so much power and heart. Watching someone incredibly close to her, changing in drastic ways and still standing by that person when they are struggling and need her the most, really stood out to me.
Vikander plays Gerda's heartbreak with great compassion for the person who used to be her husband. Such a inspiring story of Lili and her journey to find her true happiness and the person she really is.
The film is very well made. Usually, I'm on the fence with most Tom Hooper films, as they are solid technically and he gets the best performances out of his actors, but the movies are lacking something for me.
The Danish Girl might be my favorite of his. It is beautifully filmed. Very much worth watching.
