Review of The Danish Girl (2015) by Cameron S — 24 May 2016
This should have been a great film, but something was lacking. it's a fascinating story and the acting is outstanding, but it just doesn't completely work. it's tough to put my finger on exactly what went wrong, but one issue was the pacing, the film is long and slow.
Another thing, everything looked so gorgeous and perfect, it didn't feel real to me. It just felt in all respects a film concocted and executed with the sole intent of winning awards as opposed to telling the story, the costumes, cinematography, music, all just a little too perfect.
But, the performances are strong. I think any other year, Redmayne would've Won a consecutive best Actor award, he really is outstanding. Vikander is good as well, though her role doesn't afford her the opportunity to shine as much as Redmayne's.
Give a watch and decide for yourself.
