Review of The Danish Girl (2015) by Kevin C — 13 Sep 2016
Magical film. The direction and cinematography are downright stunning. The storyline is relatively simple and, at times, too easy. But the overall film is something to behold. One thing that I found interesting was that Alicia Vikander completely stole the show from Eddie Redmayne.
Vikander was a revelation. She showed basically every emotion in an actor's playbook, and did it in totally unexpected ways. Redmayne was good, but he delivered basically exactly the kind of performance expected of the role -- nothing more, nothing less.
Vikander delivered far, far more than her role called for -- and always in good ways. Wit, charm, compassion, grief, confusion, empathy, sadness. Amazing.
