Review of The Danish Girl (2015) by Chris R — 09 Oct 2016
Not usually my fare, this picture was surprising and moving and presented an extraordinary soul love that underlay the other issues - emphasizing that real love is strongest when it's most elastic.
These two were willing to be revealed & exposed even in experimentation in a bond of safety, security, & fun (and erotica). Really good performances. Vikander is heartrending & compelling when in believable sadness in close-up she says "I want my husband to hold," a momentary lapse in her steadfast bravery.
Vikander is deserving of her Supporting Oscar. Redmayne is incredibly androgynous. An unusual historical story, it's about the strong love of a rare woman, if Gerda's depiction is accurate.
