Review of The Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys (2002) by Cynthia R — 17 Dec 2007
A unique twist on the whole "stand by me" and "sandlot" type fiasco with the rebellious group of adolescent boys....and cute boys at that. Jesus, christ, Emile Hirsch at age..13?14? whatever it was was cute enough to pounce on. Sorry...
And it also had this comic book animation-type deal that wove into their lives and made it a little more exciting.
However, I think the film couldn't support its own weight. There was I think supposed to be some sort "deeper meaning" or something with them liking Willaim Blake poetry and with the tragic ending, but it's almost as if it tried too hard. It follows the usual rebellious kids learning some sort of lesson inspired by great writers, but...why? They supposedly adore poetry and great literature, but are thouroughly inspired by comics and like to pull pranks... kind of unbelieveable.
But overall it was pretty entertainging..and Emile Hirsch..damn that Emile Hirsch..
