Clough's family may have opposed the film and the book it was based on, but if not strictly accurate The Damned United is an excellent study of one of football's most enigmatic characters.
Sheen's performance is Oscar-worthy though the lack of any characters with learning difficulties or nazis committing atrocities stands in his path to gold.
The film ocassionally slows down too much for its own good but the cast and a well written storyline for Clough keep it going throughout its running time. Essential viewing for any football fan, and an excellent watch for any lover of film.
