Review of The Damned United (2009) by Frances C — 07 Aug 2010
At the heart of this are twin stories of love and loathing; Brian CLough's loathing for the Don Revie, the man who he thought slighted hiom as the manager of a lower league club, and his intense bond with Peter Taylor, his assistant.
Clough's arrogance and envy are well illustrated, and I love the archive footage, especially at the end. The only thing I didn't quite belive was Clough's voice: it was SO distinctive and I couldn't quite get over the feeling that Michael Sheen was just showing us how well he'd studied it.
