Review of The Damned Don't Cry (1950) by Art S — 01 Apr 2012
Joan Crawford plays another driven woman trying to climb the social ladder but unlike her good-hearted and honest businesswoman in Mildred Pierce, here she's willing to go to the dark side as a gangster's moll (although turning a blind eye to the violence around her).
On the way, she sells out her friends and herself. The tonal changes in her character make it hard to sympathize, however, and other characters also seem to shift personalities in order to make the plot work.
It's a B-noir but melodramatic enough to hold your attention (a Crawford specialty).
