Review of The Dam Busters (1955) by Daniel H — 06 Jun 2010
The true story of Barnes Wallis, designer of the spherical bouncing bomb that would require a pilot to skim the water at 60 feet to destroy key Nazi dams during World War II, and Guy Gibson, commander of a squad assigned to destroy those dams, thereby rendering Germany's steel-producing facilities in Essen useless.
The assault led by Gibson during the climactic final scenes in German territory clearly influenced the Death Star battle in the original Star Wars movie. This is also the movie Pink was watching in Pink Floyd's The Wall movie.
A great story of two heroes, a scientist and a warrior. Debit is that yes, Gibson's faithful black Labrador dog is named, unfortunately, the six letter N word.
