Review of The Curse of Frankenstein (1957) by Andrew S — 20 Oct 2012
This is the one that started it all for Hammer. It wisely ignores most of the original story and does it's own thing, establishing a premise that's pretty much like Stuart Gordon's Reanimator.
No bad thing. This has great performances from everyone, especially Peter Cushing, and fantastic monster makeup. It works even today, so when it was released it really pushed the boundaries for horror.
Doesn't outstay it's welcome and it's no surprise at all that they made a hell of a lot more of them based on the quality of this installment. Hugely enjoyable.
