Review of The Crying Game (1992) by Julio P — 23 Jan 2012
I must be one of the last people to see this wonderful, and stirring thriller. I don't know how I've avoided ever knowing about the famous plot twist in my entire existence, (though, I did work it out pretty much before the big reveal).
But while 'The Crying Game' has it's twists and turns, it's a deeply tender and human story about flawed, troubled human beings who we care about. Though, he is more-or-less treading on old ground in terms of forbidden love (Mona Lisa, The Miracle), Neil Jordan directs with great lyricism, and has a gift for summering atmosphere.
A real gem.
