(1953) The Cruel Sea.
WAR.
Based on the novel of the same name by Nicholas Monsarrat which focuses on a particular PT boat called "The Compass Rose" and it's crew during WWII. It appears that thy only have only 2 objectives, and they're 1) to destroy any apparent German subs, and 2) locate and then aid any known survivors who're still in the sea. Viewers can sometimes get the conflicting sense on some of the difficult choices an admiral have to make, as well as the odds they're facing while on sea. It stars Jack Hawkins as the admiral and Paul Rhys as First lieutenant Keith Lockhart also called number 1. Very personal and observant examination as it shows the difficulty regarding commanding a PT boat, and how it affects relatives and family back home.
Actual archive war footage was also used for great affect in this movie.
3 out of 4 stars.
