Review of The Crow (1994) by Sam T — 30 Jan 2013
The Crow is probably one of those go-to movies of the revenge genre. The movie has an undeniably thick sense of style that is matched by acting and storytelling that carry the movie through until the end.
Once the credits rolled, I wasn't surprised to find that Alex Proyas was the director because The Crow was reminiscent of the movie Dark City a few times when watching. While it is violent at times, Eric Draven is just such a gleeful/vengeful badass that you don't dare tear your eyes away.
The main antagonist lays it on a bit thick though, which I suppose is needed to make us hate him enough; one just can't help wondering how it would be if, like Draven, he would have been more original and imaginative.
The movie should not only be remembered because of the passing of Brandon Lee, but also because it is a damn fine movie.
