Review of The Courier (2020) by Jluis_001 — 08 May 2021
The style and tone reminded me of Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, but unlike that film, The Courier lags far behind.
The committed performance of Benedict Cumberbatch is an excellent incentive to enjoy this film, but much of its passivity is frustrating in points, because it's supposed to be a spy thriller in the middle of the Cuban missile crisis, so it should have been more proactive in terms of tension, and there really isn't much there.
The Courier is a sober and dark film, especially in its second part, but that itself drowns out the drama a bit and doesn't let it breathe better.
It never becomes a bad movie, far from it, but it also never lives up to what its story proposes.
