Review of The Country Girl (1954) by Phil P — 22 Feb 2009
All the mellodrama you want and more. Personally, not a big Cosby or Holden fan, but Grace Kelly proves to be the consumate actress - and deserved the Oscar (even though she robbed Judy Garland of her A Star is Born moment.
) The story of the alcoholic has been done 100's of times, but this version is top notch. I particularly like the back-and-forth struggle between Crosby and Holden's characters. Add in the back story of forbidden love a-brewin' and you have a really great drama.
