Review of The Counterfeiters (2007) by Rafael T — 11 Mar 2011
Hi there i'm back, I took a few days of in a little carnival vacation trip so I was off for a few days... I'm re catching my foreign cycle. Last night I saw the Academy Award Winner 2007 for best foreign movie The Counterfeiters.
It's a production between Germany and Austria, ans tells the story of a group of jew artists forced to forge fake pound bills during the world war II, the nazis called it Operation Bernhard. it is said to be quite accurate and is actually based in a book written for one of the men that worked in the operation, who also participated closely in the movie production as a consultant.
It's an interesting subject, at least I never heard about it, with a good pace, strong script, a great cast and a powerful performance in the lead (Markovics), It is also very well directed. More than a WWII film is a study of human survival, it's about values and principles and the line that divides your appreciation for those principles or your life.
It has a little downside related to closure and some character developement so I give it 80/100...
