Review of The Corporation (2003) by Ryan R — 23 Feb 2008

Great documentary with lots of thought-provoking stories and research, and interviews with interesting people.

They certainly brought up a lot of important questions about corporate responsibility to the environment and human rights, but I'm not sure I'm satisfied with some of the solutions they alluded to. At least the film brought attention to these issues and can serve as a great spring-board for more research and hopefully getting people more involved. (For example, I totally remember reading about Ray Anderson one time, but I had completely forgotten his name or exactly why he was so awesome.).

The psychoanalysis of the corporation as a person throughout the documentary seemed like it would have been a good idea, but I got more bored with and luke-warm annoyed by it the more they used it. Capitalism is run by greed instead of human morals? Good to know, thanks. What's that, the same point again? Great. Oh, and how about a few more times?

If nothing else, this film introduced me to one of, if not THE, most ridiculous real person I've ever seen in a movie: Elaine Bernard. She's an if-they-mated between Napoleon Dynamite and Stuart from MadTV... with maybe just a dash of Tom Brokaw in her voice.
