Review of The Corporation (2003) by Scott W — 01 Feb 2009
You know all these years I had this sinking feeling as a consumer that I was wrestling with amorphous corporate shadows. Like my whole life was being micromanaged by a set of conniving evil people in elite boardrooms somewhere. Like pollution, rising prices, built in obsolescence, longer work days, less pay and less respect were ever so slowly but ever so surely bringing myself and everyone else in American society to the precipice of abyss.
Well, we are arriving there fast and this movie shows us how.
While it is long, and heavy, it is ultimately real, well-researched and documented by independent experts, and a TOTAL wake up call that we need to take a long halting look at these organizations run amok and running our lives and then TAKE ACTION to stop them.
The movie leaves no doubt that our very survival as a race on this planet will depend on whether we can change the corporate form legally to tarnsform them into what they should be: Organizations that care for workers, consumers and communities without causing harm.
Props to the creators. We need at least a sequel, if not a regular tv show on pbs.
