Review of The Cook, the Thief, His Wife & Her Lover (1989) by Anthony S — 30 Sep 2007
The most visually stunning film I have ever seen. Modern films like to play at being Greenaway in the sense that they try and match his compositional acumen; however they are inevitably vapid and superficial.
Greenaway does not arbitrarily frame or decorate his shots. everything has meaning. From the colors to the wardrobe to the food to the tablecloths to the paintings hanging in the background.
