Sometimes things that dont appear as they seem actually happen to be just as they seem. This a great film for witnessing Hackmans rendering of a disintegrating mind alone. But it is also intricately put together in a shifting plot that isn't so clear for much of the film.
It captures the political mood of the early 70s (well, I imagine so) and perfectly creates a mood of tension and suspense, whether by David Shires music, the oft-repeated surveillance audio or Hackman's convincing performance.
