Review of The Conversation (1974) by Luke T — 06 Dec 2010
The Conversation.
Ridiculously ponderous, but flawlessly concluded.
The conversation slowly draws the audience in to eventually reveal the psychological effects of technology and obsession. Gene Hackman is genius, not for conveying any emotion but for his lack of presence, he's completely numb, for at least a little while. Of course, Coppola achieves all of his goals, and creates a building tension that pays off in the end.
Would I recommend this for a fun family/friend movie night? No, no, for the love of your children no. However, if you're into psychological (and did I mention slow?) commentaries, it's for sure worth it.
