Review of The Conversation (1974) by Levi N — 05 Dec 2008
I want to get married to this movie. It's so disgustingly, disturbingly good. It hypnotizes you, pulling you into what is at first some sort of thriller, but in reality (reality being a whole other issue entirely) being a character study about Gene Hackman's character.
Oh, and Hackman's performance? One of the best fucking performances ever. You genuinely feel bad for this guy and care about what he does/what happens to him. It's Travis Bickle-level.
It's overlooked compared to The Godfather Trilogy and Apocalypse Now, but this is one of Coppola's best films, and one of the best fucking movies ever. You get up in its guts, and it never lets you go. I need to go buy a ring.
See this now, because it's as awesome as awesome can be.
