Review of The Conversation (1974) by Ryan W — 07 Dec 2008
Coppola's masterpiece made between the first two Godfathers stars Gene Hackman as a surveillance expert who may or may not have heard a murder. The audio equal to Blow Up, The Conversation is a trump on all levels.
The audio design by Walter Murch is amazing. Hackman's acting is top notch and one of his best. John Cazale gives another great role in his amazingly short but magnificent career. One of the great beginnings.
Hackman's Harry Caull is a tormented and dedicated character and I was completely pulled into the movie. Coppola was/is a genius director and based off of his incredible 70's run, he's bound to come up with some more gold.
