Review of The Conversation (1974) by Joey L — 02 Aug 2009
This is a fantastic character study that really showcases Gene Hackman's abilities as an actor. He balances the perfect blend of the collected expert, as well as the paranoid man on the brink of being driven mad by his own suspicions brought on by the very expertise that he possesses.
The story is brilliant to watch unfold. It keeps you guessing right up to the reveal of the plot twist, and then you are hammered by Hackman's apparently psychotic, but still understandable reaction. The reveal is played perfectly by Coppola and unrelentingly enjoyable to watch.
