Review of The Constant Gardener (2005) by Danette/Dani A — 27 Mar 2009
I was expecting a lot from Ralph Fiennes and though he did well, something was missing. It's usually difficult for me to comment on a director, but I think he's to blame for this one. There were good moments but still this movie failed to touch me emotionally. I felt the focus on the political issue left the characters somewhat distant. There was no balance.
My view is probably strongly influenced by recently reading a book by Henning Mankell on this same subject. The shock and surprise effects were lost on me because of that.
