Review of The Constant Gardener (2005) by Alex B — 26 Aug 2012
Director Fernando Meirelles' follow up to his City of God-shaped masterpiece, and what a beast that is to follow up. A valiant effort here in the Constant Gardener, my initial fears of having a 2 hour, politic-heavy snoozefest ahead of me were instantly lifted upon seeing Rachel Weisz's face, its beauty surely enough to lift any film from the doldrums.
No doldrums here though, politic-lite(enough to follow at least), corruption-heavy and intrigue-abound. All wrapped up around a visually stunning love affair on African plains. Suspense, horror, beauty.
And, inevitably on my part, a bucket load of tears.
