Review of The Constant Gardener (2005) by Marta A — 28 Mar 2010
The Constant Gardener is a good movie, but it would have worked better if it was shorter. There's obviously the need to stay true to the novel, but the stile in which it was shot and the story itself start getting a little too obsolete after a while.
One of the other things I didn't quite enjoy were the almost "clichés". This story isn't anywhere near new. The big bad western pharmaceutical companies want to get rich but they want to have a reputation too, so they start a whole conspiracy to eliminate the people who want to reveal they're taking advantage of Africa's poverty to test their new drugs.
In comparison with movies like "Blood Diamond" and "Lord of War", "The Constant Gardener" is basically the same song, but it's a different verse.
