Review of The Conspirator (2011) by Thomas J — 19 Aug 2011
Well done historical drama that suffers slightly to some poor editing and a little slow pacing. Despite that, director Robert Redford keeps things interesting, highlighting a bit of history that isn't widely known.
James McAvoy gives an excellent performance as the lawyer who at first is certain of his client's guilt, but becomes determined to get her the justice she is entitled to. Robin Wright Penn is also outstanding as the accused Mary Surrat, a mother struggling with her Southern sympathies and the desire to protect her son, whose relationship with the assassin Booth embroils her in her predicament.
Definitely well worth watching.
