Review of The Conspirator (2011) by Hector N — 26 Feb 2013
A well made and underrated movie about the military tribunal of Mary Surratt, directed by Robert Redford. Although slow at times, great acting, costumes and directing bring this courtroom drama to life and teach a great history lesson.
Unlike the lawyers today who will do anything to get their clients off, Frederick Aiken, only wanted a fair and civilian trial. His lack of experience and the understandable thirst for revenge after the assassination of President Lincoln, put him in a no win situation and eventually cost him his inner social circle.
The question lingers, in a quest for avenging a wrong to us or our country, are we willing to ignore the Constitution and Bill of Rights.
