Review of The Conspirator (2011) by Chris D — 11 Dec 2011
The timing of this film is impeccable, as my intrigue in to the American civil war grows with every fort/battlefield I visit.
Redford shoots it in a way that makes you feel like you are looking through a looking glass as every scene seems shrouded in either hazy sunshine and dust or gloomy candle light.
The subject matter is brave considering if you ditch the period dress you would be looking at the debate about trying civilians in a military court all in the pursuit of revenge and not justice.
The array of acting talent all provide what they need to no matter how small there part. James McAvoy and Robin Wright Penn are particularly good, the later making it very hard for you to have any sympathy for her character.
Overall a gripping and absorbing court room drama that can leave you feeling infuriated by how helpless it makes you feel.
