Review of The Conspirator (2011) by Umesh N — 19 Nov 2012
This is apparently "Dan Watches Films With Unrealized Potential" week. The casting is good, it's not bad for a Redford-directed film, and it makes a case that is too often either not made or not made strongly or well in courtroom procedurals: I.
E. the question of guilt or innocence is not the real question at stake in a legitimate trial, the real question is whether or not the state can provide a compelling justification for the charges without trampling on the rights of the accused.
Overall, I think the film botches presenting that case with devoting the epilogue to the son. The fate of the son is irrelevant and muddies the message at the heart of the film.
