Review of The Conspiracy (2012) by Jeff B — 05 May 2014
While it's a snazzy film that hooked me all the way through, there are a number of gaping plot holes and character fails that stick with you more than any of its intrigue. [Spoilers] Example one: The leads sneak into secret society and then proceed to dumbly "um" and "ah" their way through conversations with club members.
You'd think if you were sneaking into the secret cabal that governs the entire world, you'd work up an alibi on why you're there as opposed to just saying, "Ya, sure," and "We're new!" to everything you're asked.
Two: It turns out in the end the entire experience was just a rouse put on by the secret club as a lark, to let people the club exists but that it isn't evil. It doesn't kill people; it just pretends to kill people as a deterrent for sneaking in.
OK, so problem one with that is now they can never pull that 'fake kill you' card again, meaning they can't deter party crashers without actually killing people. And two - and this is the big one - the secret society admits to stalking people, intimidating people, breaking into homes, robbing people, kidnapping families, and psychological torture.
You can't like, stalk someone, as a lark. So um fail. Fail, fail, fail.
