Review of The Conjuring 2 (2016) by Reese J — 17 Jul 2017
James Wan has a very decent sequel here, he's great at creating atmosphere and leading you into what appear to be predictable situations, and then goes and does the exact opposite outcome. When the scares DO happen, they're much more genuine.
A few scenes I felt were layed in for filler, slowing down the pace to make his movie a little longer; scenes which could've been better spent on more ghost shit happening. The Nun is delightfully creepy and steals every goddamn scene, which was totally ok with me! I saw a couple "peeps" leave during Patrick Wilson's cute little musical number.
My eyes watered with terror on more than one occasion, but it still follows the exact same formula as its predecessor. However, Wan still does his best to keep you on your toes and let's your imagination combine with his powers of suggestion.
For a sequel , this is a valiant effort that is not without its flaws, but the overall experience is quite enjoyable.
