Review of The Conformist (1971) by Dinuksher W — 23 Oct 2007
A smart and stylish film from Italy's Bernardo Bertolucci made at the height of his creative success in Europe. After suffering a traumatic experience with another man in his childhood, a passive Italian becomes a follower of Mussolini hoping to instill purpose in his life.
He becomes an unwilling pawn in a Fascist game of murder, as he is assigned to kill his former professor. Jean-Louis Tritignant gives an understated but powerful performance in the lead.
