Review of The Conformist (1971) by Thomas S — 17 Nov 2007
Marcello Clerici a (perhaps latent) homosexual decides the time has come for him to conform and fit into society, so he marries a mindless little bourgeois girl and joins the fascist party. When he's sent to Paris to assassinate an exiled anti-fascist with a beautiful wife, things (as they always do) get complicated.
Very atmospheric, and Trintignant actually seems to dance through his scenes sometimes.
Bertolucci has never been better.
